Lincoln residents can monitor the cleanliness of City streets using a new online map that shows street sweeping operations. The data at lincoln.ne.gov (keyword: street sweeping) is the result of automatic vehicle location (AVL) technology recently installed on the City's four sweepers.
"We have a vested interest in monitoring our progress on a daily basis and adjusting our street sweeping program to meet changing conditions," said Tim Byrne, Street Maintenance Manager. "It only makes sense to make this feature available to Lincoln residents, our customers."
The Residential Street Sweeping Map is accessible on desktop computers and mobile devices. It shows the areas that have been swept in the last five, 30 and 120 days. Street sweeping improves safety, keeps foreign objects out of the stormwater drainage system and enhances aesthetic appeal, Byrne said. Lincoln's entire street network is swept seasonally, or about three times a year. Downtown Lincoln is swept weekly, and high-density neighborhoods receive extra service as time permits.
