The Parks and Recreation Department invites the public to help clean the Hamann Rose Garden and the Strolling Garden at 1 p.m., Saturday, April 14 at 27th and "B" streets. Volunteers should park in the new Children's Zoo parking lot, which will have assigned stalls on the west side for event participants. The lot entrance is located off of "A" Street near 28th Street. Additional parking will be available in the Sunken Gardens lot at 26th and "D" streets.
Volunteers do not need to register. Participants are asked to bring thorn-proof gloves and pruning shears or lopping shears. A tool-sharpening station will be available, and staff will give tips on how to properly sharpen tools.
Staff will demonstrate proper spring rose pruning and provide information on growing rose bushes as they lead the cleanup of the Hybrid Teas, Floribundas, Grandifloras, Shrub Roses and Miniature Roses.
