The Pioneers Park Nature Center invites the public to the following events in June:
Nature's Treasure Treks, 9:30 to 10:30 a.m. June 8, 15, 22 and 29
Trekkers will use clues to search for nature's treasures at each week's themed hike. This program is for young children and their families. Register the Wednesday before each trek. The fee is $3 per person per trek.
Composting Workshop, 10 to 11 a.m. June 16
Extension Master Gardeners will demonstrate how to maintain three types of composting bins. The event is sponsored by Nebraska Extension in Lancaster County and the City Recycling Office. This program is free, and registration is not required.
Rain Barrel Workshop, 2 to 4 p.m. June 16
Participants will build rain barrels to take home and learn the basics of rainwater harvesting. Rain barrels must be transported from the park on the day of the workshop. The workshop is designed for adults, and children must be accompanied by an adult. This workshop is partially funded by the Nebraska Environmental Trust and hosted by the City Watershed Management Division of the Public Works and Utilities Department. The registration deadline is June 8, and the fee is $35 per person (rain barrels are valued at $110).
Frogs and Floats, 1 to 3 p.m. June 17, Frogs and Floats
Spend the afternoon celebrating dads with frog catching, tadpole chasing, wetlands exploration and root beer floats. Old shoes and clothes are encouraged. Insect repellent is also recommended. The registration deadline is June 13, and the fee is $20 per family.
