Fireworks and Ammunition Collection is July 5

The Bureau of Fire Prevention will collect unwanted fireworks and ammunition Thursday, July 5 in the east parking lot at Oak Lake Park, from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m.

Chief Fire Inspector Bill Moody said the department provides the collection service because it typically receives numerous requests throughout the year to pick up unused and unwanted fireworks. The devices become more dangerous as they age, he said.

"Storing unused and unwanted fireworks and ammunition in your home can be a hazardous situation due to the fact that both fireworks and ammunition can degrade," Moody said.

City ordinance allows the sale and use of permissible fireworks in the City only from 8 a.m. to 11 p.m. July 3 and from 8 a.m. to 11:59 p.m. July 4 of each year.

For more information on the fireworks collection, contact Bill Moody at 402-441-6437.
