Public Invited to Meeting on Accessory Dwelling Units July 25

The Lincoln-Lancaster County Planning Department invites the public to discuss potential zoning revisions for Accessory Dwelling Units (ADUs) Wednesday, July 25, at Gere Branch Library, 2400 S. 56th Street. The meeting begins at 5 p.m. with a brief presentation, and the discussion will continue until 6:30 p.m.

An ADU is a dwelling located on the same lot as another single-family dwelling. It typically shares utilities with the main dwelling and has its own entrance, kitchen, bathroom and living space. An ADU can be attached or detached from the main dwelling.

Currently, ADUs are allowed in Lincoln under very limited circumstances. Earlier this year, the Lancaster County Board of Commissioners directed the Planning Department to study the feasibility of zoning amendments to consider providing more options for ADUs throughout the County. Planning staff crated a working group, which includes County residents of various interests, to create a discussion draft for allowing ADUs in the County. The discussion draft is the result of the working group effort.
