The intersection of South Coddington Avenue and West Van Dorn Street will open in all directions at 6 p.m. Saturday, July 28. Periodic lane closures may be needed to complete minor grading and pavement grinding, erosion control and seeding, but traffic will be maintained in all directions throughout the operations. Drivers are encouraged to exercise caution around construction crews while they complete their work.
The project began in 2017 and is designed to reduce vehicle crashes by converting a two-way, stop-controlled intersection into a single-lane roundabout. Roundabouts reduce the chances of crashes at an intersection by 75 percent. Other improvements include repairing and rebuilding adjacent sidewalks, trails and box culvert extensions and installing a new storm drainage system and street lights. The Public Works and Utilities Department appreciates the public's patience during construction.
