Party in the Parks Participants Sought

Organizations wanting to participate in the annual "Party in the Parks" community event series are invited to submit their proposals to the Parks and Recreation Department by January 14. Fees are waived for arts organizations using City parks to present musical, performing arts and visual events that are open to the public and free of charge. Proposals can be sent to Lincoln Parks and Recreation Department, Party in the Parks, 3131 "O" Street, Suite 300, Lincoln, NE 68510.

Party in the Parks participants are responsible for planning, promoting and presenting their events. Current series events include the Stransky Park and Lincoln Municipal Band concerts, the art sale and show in Sunken Gardens and family activities in Union Plaza. All events will be promoted through the Department's regular promotional channels online and in printed program guides.

Proposals will be evaluated based on the following criteria:

"Community events in parks enliven the community, foster social connectedness between residents and engender an affinity of residents for their city," said Lynn Johnson, Parks and Recreation Director. Party in the Parks began in 2013 to provide free community arts events in Union Plaza. In 2014, the Union Plaza Events became Party on the Plaza and the Party in the Parks initiative expanded to include other free performing and visual arts events in Lincoln's parks throughout the summer months.
