James Malone
James Malone
December 15, 1852 - December 11, 1918
James Malone was born on December 15, 1852, in Illinois. He joined the Lincoln Police Department in 1889. Chief Malone was a "law and order" style policeman that arrived with the intent to "clean up" Lincoln. He worked to break down the corrupt system of kickbacks and "rents" paid to the police to keep casino and brothels open. He was Chief of Police three times between 1909 and 1918 (1909-1911; 1914-1915; 1916-1918). Chief Malone passed away on December 11, 1918. He served on the Lincoln Police Department for 29 years. Chief Malone was survived by his wife, Ellen, and daughter, Ellen.



John Dee
John Dee
January 16, 1874 - 1921
John Dee was born on January 16, 1874, in Iowa. He was a captain with the Lincoln Police Department until the time of his death, in 1921, at the age of 47. He was survived by his wife, Alice.



Major Gross
Major Gross
October 10, 1882 - September 15, 1928
Major Gross was born on October 10, 1882, in Nebraska. He joined the Lincoln Police Department on September 15, 1918, and became the first motorcycle officer for the Lincoln Police Department. Major Gross passed away on September 15, 1928, at the age of 45, following a severe ten day illness, which later led to a heart attack. Before joining the police department, he served as a Lincoln firefighter. Officer Gross served on the Lincoln Police Department for 10 years. He was survived by his wife, Hazel, his son, Edward, and his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Peter Gross.



Michael Rooney
Michael Rooney
1869 - August 4, 1931
Michael Rooney was born in 1869 in Iowa. He joined the Lincoln Police Department in 1907. He was later promoted to sergeant and then to captain. Captain Rooney served on the Lincoln Police Department for over 20 years until the time of his death on August 4, 1931. He was survived by his wife, Marie, and his daughter, Leola.



Charles Wilson
Charles Wilson

Charles Wilson was born in Bridnortch, Shropshire, England. He came to the United States at the age of 20 and settled on a farm near Friend, Nebraska. Charles Wilson joined the Lincoln Police Department on January 3, 1918. He was a police veteran with 22 years of service when died on July 14, 1939. Officer Wilson died of heat prostration two days after he worked in extreme heat. He was the head jailor and worked during a heat wave with 110 degree temperatures. He left work ill and died two days later. He was survived by his wife, Sophia, and two sons, Herbert and Arthur.



Donald Jacobson

1910 - February 15, 1941
Donald Jacobson was born in 1910 and was raised in Gordon, Nebraska. He joined the Lincoln Police Department on January 25, 1937, and was issued Star #39. Officer Jacobson attended the University of Nebraska-Lincoln and was expected to receive his Bachelors of Arts degree in 1942. Jacobson passed away on February 15, 1941, after battling an illness. He served on the Lincoln Police Department for 4 years. He was survived by his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Henry Jacobson of Gordon, along with his four brothers and seven sisters.



Forrest Schappaugh
Forrest Schappaugh
November 22, 1902 - January 29, 1942
Forrest Schappaugh was born on November 22, 1902, and died January 29, 1942. He was appointed as a motorcycle officer with the Lincoln Police Department on April 1, 1924, and promoted to the rank of detective on June 1, 1935. On January 1, 1942, he was promoted to Lieutenant in Charge of Equipment. Less than one month later, Lt. Schappaugh was stricken by a heart attack while attending the Sheriff's Convention. He served on the Lincoln Police Department for 17 years.



Walter Sutfin
Walter Sutfin
March 4, 1893 - July 27, 1946
Walter Sutfin was born on March 4, 1893. He was appointed a patrolman with the Lincoln Police Department on June 24, 1937. On September 1, 1943, he was promoted to the rank of detective. Detective Sutfin drowned on July 27, 1946, while on a fishing trip in the Blue River near Crete, Nebraska. Detective Sutfin served on the Lincoln Police Department for 9 years.



Arthur Bailey

September 23, 1888 - January 30, 1948
Arthur Bailey was born in Brook, Nebraska, on September 23, 1888. Prior to joining the Lincoln Police Department, he served with various law enforcement agencies in the state of Nebraska. Arthur Bailey was appointed as a cruiser officer on July 1, 1943. On March 1, 1945, he was promoted to the rank of desk sergeant. He passed away on January 30, 1948, from a brain tumor at the age of 59. Sergeant Bailey served on the Lincoln Police Department for 4 years.



Lynn Schappaugh

November 19, 1898 - April 10, 1949
Lynn Schappaugh was born in Concordia, Kansas on November 19, 1898. He joined the Lincoln Police Department on May 1, 1927, as a night patrolman, and continued to serve as both a day and night patrolman until the time of his death on April 10, 1949, at the age of 50. Officer Schappaugh served on the Lincoln Police Department for 22 years. He was survived by his wife, two sons, and one daughter.



Christian Glissman

August 5, 1889 - May 27, 1951
Christian Glissman was born on August 5, 1889, in Norfolk, Nebraska. He joined the Lincoln Police Department in 1944. He passed away on May 27, 1951, at the age of 61. Officer Glissman served on the Lincoln Police Department for 7 years.



William Hill
William Hill
October 15, 1931 - June 23, 1953
William Hill was born in Indianapolis, Indiana, on October 15, 1931. He joined the Lincoln Police Department on June 22, 1953, as a patrolman, and worked only one day in that capacity. Officer Hill died on June 23, 1953, at the age of 21. He received a head injury while playing football after work. He had been interested in law enforcement all his life since both his grandfather and great-grandfather were police officers. Officer Hill served for the Lincoln Police Department for one day.



Charles Baker

December 18, 1902 - May 6, 1954
Charles Baker was born in Phillips, Nebraska, on December 18, 1902. He was appointed as a car marker for the Lincoln Police Department on August 26, 1931. During his career, he also worked as a night beat patrolman and as a suburban patrolman. He passed away on May 6, 1954, from leukemia at the age of 51. Officer Baker served on the Lincoln Police Department for 23 years. He was survived by his wife and four children.



Frank Bohlman

March 30, 1907 - December 14, 1956
Frank Bohlman was born on March 30, 1907, in Nebraska. He joined the Lincoln Police Department as a night patrolman in 1942, and was appointed as a detective in 1948. He passed away on December 14, 1956. Detective Bohlman served for the Lincoln Police Department for almost 15 years.



George Hansen
George Hansen
1907 - August 17, 1960
George Hansen was born in 1907 in Nebraska. He joined the Lincoln Police Department in 1942. He was later appointed as a detective, and worked continuously in that position until the time of his death on August 17, 1960. Detective Hansen served on the Lincoln Police Department for 18 years.



George Gohde
George Gohde
October 5, 1903 - January 3, 1961
George Gohde was born on October 5, 1903, in Fairmont, Minnesota. He attended the University of Nebraska-Lincoln and was a curfew officer. On September 16, 1927, he became a Lincoln patrolman. On June 1, 1928, he resigned. He was reappointed on June 25, 1943, as a traffic clerk, promoted to desk sergeant, and later to sergeant in charge of the Record Bureau. He was promoted to Lieutenant in charge of Records on September 26, 1951, and continued as Lieutenant of the Violations Bureau until his death on January 3, 1961. Lt. Gohde served on the Lincoln Police Department for 18 years. His survivors included his wife, Virginia, his daughter, his son, and several grandchildren.



Robert Johnson

April 29, 1916 - 1961
Robert Johnson was born on April 29, 1916, in Foster, Nebraska. He was appointed as a patrolman with the Lincoln Police Department on March 1, 1946. He worked as a patrolman, a motorcycle officer, a cruiser officer, a desk sergeant, and a detective, in which latter capacity he served from January 2, 1957, until the time of his death in 1961 at the age of 45. Detective Johnson served on the Lincoln Police Department for 15 years. His survivors included his wife, Marcella, and four children.



William Christline
William Christline
January 30, 1891 - December 5, 1961
William Christline was born on January 30, 1891, in Macon, Nebraska. He joined the Lincoln Police Department on September 6, 1943, as a patrolman, serving continuously until his death, at the age of 70, on December 5, 1961. During his years of service with the department, he served as a patrolman, a cruiser officer, a sergeant of the Liquor Squad, and a street sergeant. Sergeant Christline served on the Lincoln Police Department for almost 18 years. His survivors include his wife, Julia. One daughter, Jean, preceded him in death.



Oren Graves
Oren Graves
April 22, 1910 - May 27, 1965
Oren Graves was born on April 22, 1910, in Missouri. He joined the Lincoln Police Department on October 12, 1936, as a night patrolman. His last promotion was to Assistant Chief of Operations in 1959. He also served as a motorcycle officer, a sergeant, a lieutenant, and a captain. He attended the FBI National Academy in 1947, receiving his Western Union Telegram invitation from John Edgar Hoover. Assistant Chief Graves passed away on May 27, 1965. He served on the Lincoln Police Department for almost 29 years.



Everett Rudisil
Everett Rudisil
April 8, 1907 - August 14, 1966
Everett Rudisil was born on April 8, 1907, in Nebraska. He joined the Lincoln Police Department on April 23, 1929, as the police chief's secretary. He was in charge of payroll and most of the department's identification work. He later specialized in identification and is responsible for the fingerprint files the Lincoln Police Department has today. He was promoted to Superintendent of Bureau of Identification on September 26, 1930, and later promoted to Lieutenant of Records and Communications on June 1, 1966. He passed away on August 14, 1966. Lt. Rudisil served on the Lincoln Police Department for 37 years.



Donald Buckner

August 16, 1944 - December 28, 1981
Donald Buckner was born on August 16, 1944, in Swift, Minnesota. He joined the Lincoln Police Department on August 1, 1966. He was promoted to sergeant in 1971, detective in 1973, lieutenant in 1978, and captain in 1979. Captain Buckner was head of the Lincoln Police Department Northeast Team until his death on December 28, 1981, at the age of 37. He was playing basketball with fellow police officers and firefighters when he had a heart attack. Before joining the Lincoln Police Department, Captain Buckner studied criminal justice at the University of Nebraska-Lincoln for two years and served on the U.S. Air Force for four years. Captain Buckner served on the Lincoln Police Department for 15 years. He was survived by his wife, Jane, and his daughter, Angie, 11.



Jack Lancaster

February 10, 1930 - February 10, 1985
Jack Lancaster was born on February 10, 1930, in Beatrice, NE. He joined the Lincoln Police Department on August 16, 1960, as a patrol officer. He resigned on February 14, 1968, and was rehired on May 24, 1970. Sergeant Lancaster was assigned to the canine program, and then served as a patrol sergeant and a desk supervisor. He passed away on February 10, 1985, from a heart attack. Sergeant Lancaster served on the Lincoln Police Department for 21 years. His parents were Cloyd and Bessie Lancaster. Sergeant Lancaster was survived by his wife, Mary.



Martin Ortiz

Martin Ortiz was born on January 28, 1951, in Lincoln, NE. He joined the Lincoln Police Department on May 10, 1971, as a cadet. On February 7, 1972, Ortiz was appointed as a patrolman for the Northeast Team. He passed away on April 21, 1985, following an illness. Officer Ortiz served on the Lincoln Police Department for almost 14 years. He was survived by his wife, Judy, his parents, Quintin and Eulalia, and many brothers and sisters.



Mike Geidner

August 22, 1948 - October 31, 1991
Mike Geidner was born on August 22, 1948, in Lynwood, CA. He served in the U.S. Airforce before joining the Lincoln Police Department on December 26, 1974. Officer Geidner was assigned to the counter measure squad and worked in crime prevention. On October 31, 1991, Officer Geidner suffered a heart attack and passed away. He served on the Lincoln Police Department for almost 17 years. His parents were William and Arlene Geidner. He was survived by his wife, Judith, and his five children.



Scott Ihms

July 10, 1956 - January 25, 2002
Scott Ihms was born on July 10, 1956, in Loup City, Nebraska. Ihms joined the Lincoln Police Department on March 30, 1998, as a garage mechanic. He was also a guitarist with Lincoln-based bands Fidelity, Crosswinds, and Tease. He passed away on January 25, 2002, at the age of 45 after a valiant battle against cancer. Ihms served on the Lincoln Police Department for almost 4 years. He was survived by his mother, Glynne, his sister, Adrianne, and his brother, Harry.



Chuck Hennesey

March 8, 1944 - January 12, 2004
Chuck Hennesey was born on March 8, 1944, in Lincoln, NE. He became a park ranger for the City of Lincoln on November 26, 1969. In 1976, he joined the Lincoln Police Department when the Parks and Recreation Department consolidated its park rangers with the Lincoln police force. He was appointed as a sergeant, specializing in forgeries and frauds. Sergeant Hennesey passed away on January 12, 2004. He served on the Lincoln Police Department for 27 years. Sergeant Hennesey was survived by his wife, Phyllis, his daughter, Christine, and stepsons, Kenneth and Kirk Keller.



Patrick McGuire

Patrick McGuire was born on July 26, 1959, in Valentine, Nebraska. He joined the Lincoln Police Department on December 17, 1981. During his career, he worked as a patrol officer, a school resource officer, and a Youth Aid Investigator. Officer McGuire was also active with LPD summer camp and police midget football. Officer McGuire died on September 20, 2006, at the age of 47. He served on the Lincoln Police Department for almost 25 years.



Donnamarie Jones

November 5, 1946 - March 28, 2009
Donnamarie Jones was born on November 5, 1946. She joined the Lincoln Police Department in 1977 as a public service officer assigned to parking enforcement. She held three different titles at the Lincoln Police Department, including her final position as Service Desk Supervisor. She served on the Lincoln Police Department for 32 years until she passed away on March 28, 2009, at the age of 62, following a second fight with cancer. She was survived by two sisters, nieces, nephews, and a grandnephew.



Vicki Bourg

October 10, 1970 - January 24, 2011
Vicki Bourg was born on October 10, 1970, and raised in Malcolm, Nebraska. She joined the Lincoln Police Department in 1995. She served almost 8 years as North Star's school resource officer. Officer Bourg received numerous commendations in her career with Lincoln Police Department, including the Life Saving Award (1999), Field Training Officer of the Year (2001), Exceptional Duty (2009), and Officer of the Year (2010). She passed away on January 24, 2011, after a long battle with cancer. Officer Bourg served on the Lincoln Police Department for 15 years. She was survived by her husband, Jesse Roberts, her parents, Dale and Linda Bourg, and brother, Brendon.



Tony Howe
Tony Howe
April 12, 1974 - January 25, 2012
Anthony "Tony" Howe was born in Hastings, but spent much of his life in York, Nebraska. He began his law enforcement career in 1996 at the York Police Department. He then spent six years with the York Sheriff's Office before being hired by the Lincoln Police Department in 2004. During his career at LPD, Tony was a field training officer, a drug recognition expert, a member of Field Force and Honor Guard. He was an investigator with the Criminal Investigations Unit before his sudden death in an automobile accident. An active member in his community, Tony taught bible school classes, served as a Teammates mentor, Cub Scout leader, basketball coach and baseball coach. Tony Howe was survived by his parents, Roger and Beverly Howe; his wife, Stephanie, and their three sons, Jacob, Benjamin, and Tyler.



John Clarke
John Clarke
May 11, 1969 - February 25, 2013
John Edward Clarke was born in Auburn, Nebraska. He was a Nebraska football player and graduated from UNL with a degree Criminal Justice. He was hired by the Lincoln Police Department in 1991. During John's 21 year career with LPD, he served as an FTO, a firearm's instructor, assisted at police summer camp and coached midget football. He was a highly-respected, state-wide certified police service dog trainer and served as an LPD canine handler for over 15 years. John was active in his community as a coach and volunteer. John passed away unexpectedly during a work-out at a local fitness center. John Clarke was survived by his wife, Lisa, and their three children, Chayse, Hope, and Colton; his mother, Nancy Clarke; and his brother, Roger Tim Clarke.



Tom Hamm

May 22, 1959 - May 21, 2013
Thomas Lee Hamm was born in Quantico, Virginia. He was hired by the Lincoln Police Department in 1988 and promoted to sergeant in 1998. During his career, he served on all five police teams. He was also assigned to the Criminal Investigations Unit and was a certified Crime Scene Investigator through the International Association for Identification. For eight years, he was an active member of the department's pistol team and competed nationally in competitions. Just prior to his death, he was a uniform street supervisor for the Northwest Team. Sergeant Tom Hamm was survived by his wife, Kathy, and their three daughters, Bethany, Charity, and Hayley; his parents, Troy and Patricia Hamm; and his sister, Linda Holt.



Barb Nelsen

November 25, 1956 - February 14, 2014
Barbara (Watson) Nelsen was born in San Jose, California. She began her career with the Lincoln Police Department in 1993. She was a dedicated Records Technician for twenty years. Barb passed away on February 14, 2014, after battling a rare vascular disease. She was survived by her daughter, Janean, four brothers, a step-sister and two grandchildren.
