Illegal Fireworks in the City of Lincoln

As the holiday weekend approaches the Lincoln Police Department would like to remind everyone of a few items which will help to keep the citizens of Lincoln safe and law abiding. The only permissible fireworks in the city are sparklers, Vesuvius fountains, spray fountains, torches, color firecones, star and comet-type color aerial shells without explosive charge for the purpose of making a noise and color wheels. All other fireworks are illegal within the city limits.

The lawful discharging of legal fireworks is allowed July 3rd from 8:00 a.m. to 11:00 p.m. and on July 4th from 8:00 a.m. to 12:00 midnight. The July 4th holiday weekend is one of the busiest weekends at the police department. In 2004 officers took over 100 fireworks related calls on the 3rd and the 4th in addition to the hundreds of other calls for service over those days. In addition to the increased calls for service there will be extra personnel at Oak Lake Park and everyone is reminded that no private fireworks of any kind are permitted in the park.
