LPD Assistant Chief John Becker Retiring

The Lincoln Police Department announces the retirement of Assistant Chief John Becker. Assistant Chief Becker leaves the department after 31 years of distinguished service.

John Becker was hired by the police department in January of 1975 as an officer who walked a beat downtown and also was a ‘motor cop’. Three years later, Officer Becker was promoted to Sergeant in January of 1979. As a Sergeant he was assigned to various areas within the department from Crime Prevention to Internal Affairs.

Becker was promoted to Lieutenant in December of 1983 where he was the commanding officer of the Crime Prevention and Youth Aid Unit and the Personnel and Training Unit. In 1988 he achieved the rank of Captain where he was the commander for the Northwest/Center Team. The team was the In November of 1992 John Becker was promoted to the rank of Assistant Chief. Assistant Chief Becker was in charge of the Administrative Support Division which Personnel and Training and Police Records. As a new Assistant Chief, Becker chaired the Community Oriented Policing Steering Committee which made recommendations for the department in the implementation of Community Policing.

In 1994 AC Becker was assigned to the Operations Division where he oversaw all of the community police teams and facilitated total operation of all uniformed, police services to the City of Lincoln.

John is married to Dr. Nancy Becker, Principle of North Star High School. They have two daughters who both live in Lincoln with their families.

John Becker will be starting his new career as an associate with Talent + on February 1st 2006.
