Brix Makes His Debut

Friday, December 19, 2008, marked the first night that Officer Chris Vollmer and Brix rode together as partners. In September, Brix was selected as the 43rd dog to serve in Lincoln Police Department's Canine Unit. Brix is a 17 month old half Belgian Malinois, half German Shepherd from Slovakia.

Officer Vollmer and Brix recently completed an 11 week Police Service Dog Training at the Nebraska Law Enforcement Training Center (NLETC) in Grand Island. Brix is certified in narcotics detection and patrol, which includes building searches and tracking.

Officer Vollmer has been employed with LPD since June 2006. This is his first canine since being selected as a canine handler. There are three other handlers and canines that are assigned to the Operations Division to assist with calls throughout Lincoln.

The Lincoln Police Department and the Canine Unit wish to thank all of the individuals, groups and businesses for their contributions to make the purchase of our new canine possible.
