Multiple Members of Drug Trafficking Group Arrested
On March 26, 2008, members of the Lincoln/Lancaster County Drug Task Force, in conjunction with the DEA, FBI, NSP, LPD SWAT, LSO SWAT, UNL-PD, Columbus Police Department, Lancaster County and U.S. Attorney’s Offices, raided four Lincoln addresses and made seven arrests as the result of a major investigation into a drug trafficking organization operating in the local area. Sixty law enforcement members participated in the service of these search warrants and the subsequent arrests. During the operation, five vehicles were seized along with over $80,000 in cash, more than one pound of methamphetamine and almost one pound of cocaine.
The drug trafficking group is believed to be responsible for distributing hundreds of pounds of methamphetamine in Lincoln and other Nebraska communities. The investigation, which began in August 2007, identified multiple suspects through the use of confidential informants, offender interviews, undercover buys and other investigative techniques. This local group is believed to have distribution ties with a significant portion of eastern Nebraska.
While developing sufficient information to begin dismantling the group, the Lincoln/Lancaster County Drug Task Force made a series of undercover buys and obtained over a pound of methamphetamine and approximately ˝ pound of cocaine from the group. Additional criminal activity associated with the group includes weapons offenses and the trading of stolen property for drugs.
This investigation continues and authorities anticipate additional arrests and seizures.
