Arrests Made in Early Morning Shootings

On July 10, 2008, at 5:12 a.m., Lincoln Police officers were sent to 2100 block of Garfield on shots fired. The 23 year old female caller told dispatch that two men were trying to enter her boyfriend’s vehicle. The boyfriend was awoken to the car alarm sounding from his grey 2005 Cadillac. When the boyfriend, a 34 year old man, confronted them, one black male fired several times. Fortunately, he was not struck but the front passenger vehicle window was shot out. Four .45 caliber casings were recovered at the scene. It is unknown if anything was taken from the vehicle.

Then, at 5:48 a.m., a 34 year old woman called LPD from 3022 O Street. She was in her basement when she heard a loud bang at her back door. She then heard 2-3 gunshots and footsteps coming down her stairs. Two men confronted her. One was waving a handgun, while the other man grabbed her, demanding money. She told them that she did not have any money and they eventually left the residence. It is not believed that either party stole anything prior to leaving. Officers later located two spent shell casings to a .45 caliber weapon.

From the combined descriptions in these two incidents, we were able to develop a suspect. This man is known to live at 7225 Leighton. Officers were watching the house while a search warrant was being developed. Due to the dangerous nature, the SWAT Team was also activated. Before the warrant was executed, two black males voluntarily exited the residence. Jamar Haynes and Tye Carter have been arrested for their involvement.
