William Smith Arrested for Shooting at Save Mart
On November 13, 2008, at 12:18am, officers were sent to Save Mart Grocery Store at 2727 N. 11th Street. Dispatch advised that twenty people were arguing in the parking and shots had been fired. Officers arrived to find LeMarcus Gaskins in the store suffering from a gunshot wound to the upper torso. Witnesses advised that the shooter left in a Cadillac Escalade.
Our investigation showed that the shooting stemmed from an argument that occurred earlier in the evening at a downtown bar. After the victim left, he was followed to Save Mart. LeMarcus was later treated at Bryan LGH West Hospital for a collapsed lung, cracked rib and damage to his liver as a result of the gunshot. He has since been released.
Independent witnesses have identified William E. Smith as the man that shot LeMarcus Gaskins. On the morning of November 17, 2008, William Smith met with investigators at Lincoln Police Headquarters. This meeting was pre-arranged and William Smith brought his attorney. William was subsequently lodged in the Lancaster County Jail for 1st degree Assault and Use of a Firearm to Commit a Felony.
