Assistance Needed in Locating Stolen Firearm
On November 28, 2008, two teens walked away from Jackson Rehabilitation in Sioux City, Iowa. They later stole a 2000 red Dodge Dakota truck from South Sioux City. The truck contained personal belongings, including a Remington Model 760, .3006 caliber pump action rifle. The teens drove the truck to a relative's home in Southeast Lincoln. The truck has since been recovered and the teens lodged at the Detention Center.
During the investigation, we discovered that, on November 29th, these teens went joy-riding in the stolen vehicle. While driving in Lancaster County, they fired the weapon at least twice before throwing it out the window of the truck. An LPD officer and LSO deputy have walked the area that the teens reportedly abandoned the stolen firearm. It has not yet been located.
We are asking for the public's assistance in locating the weapon. It may have been thrown from the roadway near SW 42nd/Bennett Road to Highway 33. If the rifle is found, please call law enforcement immediately.
