"Drive Sober or Get Pulled Over" Campaign
This holiday season, the Lincoln Police Department will join law enforcement agencies nationwide by participating in the "Drive Sober or Get Pulled Over" enforcement campaign. This special holiday enforcement will be conducted from Friday, December 2, 2011, through Saturday, December 31, 2011. The Nebraska Office of Highway Safety is providing funding for off-duty officers to remove drunk and drugged drivers from our roadways during a time of increased alcohol consumption. These additional officers will be added on Friday and Saturday evenings during peak activity hours, 10 pm- 4 am. Patrol will be conducted throughout the city, targeting high volume traffic areas.
Last year, Lincoln police officers investigated 6,925 traffic accidents - 1,790 of those accidents included injuries and 7 were fatal. Officers also arrested 1,960 drivers in 2010 for driving under the influence.
