Lincoln Police Issue Reminders for a Safe Football Season
With the Husker football season officially kicking off this week, downtown Lincoln and the adjoining residential neighborhoods will be brimming with alumni, students and fans. The Lincoln Police Department wants to remind citizens of several city ordinances that help to maintain peace and order.
Drinking in Public: It shall be unlawful for any person to consume alcoholic liquor in or on the public streets, alleys, sidewalks, parking areas, roads or highways within the city.
Drinking in Vehicle: It shall be unlawful for any person to consume alcoholic liquors inside vehicles while upon the public streets, alleys, parking areas, roads or highways.
Open Container: It shall be unlawful for any person in the passenger area of a motor vehicle to possess an open alcoholic beverage container while the motor vehicle is located in or on the public streets, alleys, parking areas, roads, or highways within the city.
Littering: No person shall throw or deposit litter in or upon any street, sidewalk, skywalk, or other public place within the city except in public receptacles, in authorized private receptacles for collection, or in official city dumps.
Officers in Northwest Lincoln will be active in the North Bottoms neighborhood, watching for violations. Historically, this area, just north of Memorial Stadium, has been the location of complaints. Please keep these ordinances in mind when attending gatherings and while participating in downtown events. We want to encourage a safe and successful football season.
