"Click It or Ticket" Seat Belt Enforcement Project
The Lincoln Police Department's Traffic Enforcement Unit will join in a nationwide "Click it or Ticket" Enforcement effort from Monday, May 21, 2012 through Sunday, June 3, 2012. Officers will be conducting enforcement throughout the city, concentrating on areas with high injury accident rates. They will be placing special emphasis on those drivers who are not wearing a seatbelt and watching closely for child restraint violations. "Wearing a seat belt is still the single most effective thing we can do to save lives and reduce injuries on Lincoln's roadways," Sergeant Sam Santacroce added. The Nebraska Office of Highway Safety is providing funding for increased enforcement during this campaign.
In 2011, Lincoln Police wrote 5,031 seat belt and child restraint violation citations. Those citations increased 11.4 % from the 2010 total of 4,516. Our goal is to continue enforcement and education efforts to help increase Nebraska's statewide safety belt usage rate to 87.6% from the 84% usage rate in 2010.
