LPD Honors Fallen Officers for National Police Week
The public is invited to the Lincoln Police Department's ceremony Tuesday, May 15, 2012, to honor fallen law enforcement officers as part of Peace Officers Memorial Day. The event begins at noon on the east steps of the Justice and Law Enforcement Center, 575 S. 10th Street. The ceremony will include keynote remarks from Nebraska Supreme Court Chief Justice Michael Heavican, a proclamation from Mayor Beutler and the Lincoln Police Honor Guard.
Police Chief Jim Peschong said the ceremony is an opportunity to honor and pay tribute to the local officers who gave their lives while serving the citizens of Lincoln:
Captain Charles E. Hall - March 31, 1917
Special Duty Patrolman Marion F. Marshall - September 9, 1932
Officer Richard E. Leyden - September 26, 1949
Detective Frank H. Soukup - December 16, 1966
Detective Paul B. Whitehead - August 10, 1967
Motorcycle Officer George W. Welter - February 9, 1968
The ceremony will be followed by a reception in the LPD classrooms, with refreshments furnished by the Lincoln Police Union.
