Police and Fire Inspectors Investigating Arson
On January 28, 2013, members of Lincoln Fire & Rescue and the Lincoln Police Department were sent to a residential fire at 6430 S. 56th Street. At 9:05 p.m., witnesses driving down S. 56th Street saw flames on the front porch and interior of the home. Dense fog contributed to the fire smoldering for some time before it was discovered. Fire crews responded and battled the blaze for more than 30 minutes. The house, and its contents, was a total loss. The resident was not home at the time; however, her three dogs perished from smoke inhalation.
Subsequent investigation of the scene, conducted by the Bureau of Fire Prevention, revealed that the fire was a result of arson. Interviews have been conducted with neighbors, witnesses, the resident and homeowner. Investigators are encouraging anyone with information to contact Crime Stoppers at 402.475.3600.
