Lincoln Police Department Mourns Death of Officer

The Lincoln Police Department lost a well-respected and dedicated officer on Monday, February 25, 2013. At 11:00 a.m. Officer John Clarke was working out, off-duty, at a fitness facility when he collapsed. A fitness director and physical therapist rushed to his aid and began CPR. John was transported to a hospital, where he was pronounced deceased. The actual cause of death is not known at this time.

Officer Clarke was a 21 year veteran of the Lincoln Police Department and assigned as head trainer for LPD's Canine Unit. He has served as a canine handler for over 15 years. During his career, John also served as a Field Training Officer, a firearm's instructor, assisted with police summer camp and coached midget football.

Officer Clarke has been recognized throughout his career with numerous commendations and awards. In 2010, Officer Clarke was nominated for Officer of the Year. John's supervisors and peers spoke highly of his skills as an investigator and team mate. He was described as a role model - humble and ethical, a quiet leader, with a strong work ethic, positive outlook and attitude. He was a gentle giant and true professional, treating citizens and coworkers with equal amounts of compassion and respect.
