Lincoln Police Investigating Death of Transient
On Saturday, November 16, 2013, at 2:10 p.m., Lincoln Police Department and Lincoln Fire & Rescue were sent to the 900 block of Saunders Avenue. A woman called to report that a man was intoxicated, passed out behind a business. George T. Ike, a 47 year old transient, was found with recent injuries and transported to a local hospital. George Ike told hospital staff that he had been hit by a vehicle, but later changed his story and said that he was assaulted. At approximately 8:30 p.m. that night, George Ike died from his injuries. Examinations at the hospital and through an autopsy revealed that he sustained a broken pelvis and broken ribs. Though the injuries appear more consistent with a motor vehicle accident, investigators are not eliminating the possibility of an assault.
Lincoln Police are looking for anyone that may have information about the events preceding George Ike's death. Due to the nature of his injuries, it is highly unlikely that it occurred much further from where he was located. At the time, George may have been wearing a brown coat, red Nebraska sweatshirt and blue jeans. Contact the Lincoln Police Department at 402.441.6000 or via Crime Stoppers 402.475.3600.
