First Phase of Underage Drinking Project Completed, Second Phase of Project Begins
On August 31, 2013, the Lincoln Police Department's Northwest Team conducted a project aimed at impacting underage drinking and the illegal activity associated with it. Plainclothes and uniformed officers patrolled the North Bottoms neighborhood focusing on party disturbances and impaired driving. Funding for the increased enforcement was provided by the Nebraska Office of Highway Safety.
The first phase of the project was completed on September 14, 2013. During the first phase, officers issued one hundred and five criminal citations, three traffic citations and sixteen warning citations. Thirty (29%) of the criminal citations were for Minor in Possession of Alcohol.
Additional funding has been provided by the Nebraska Office of Highway Safety for a second phase of this project. During the months of October and November, officers will continue to saturate the North Bottoms neighborhood in an attempt to reduce binge drinking and alcohol related offenses.
