LPD Saddened by the Loss of Police Service Dog Kony

It is with heavy hearts that the Lincoln Police Department reports the death of Police Service Dog Kony. Kony was a 9 year old German Shepard from the Czech Republic. He has worked side-by-side with his handler, Officer Tyler Dean, for 8 years. Kony was trained in building, evidence and narcotic searches, as well as tracking and handler protection.

On January 7, 2015, Kony was found to have a Hemangiosarcoma tumor. It is a highly aggressive form of cancer that presented additional heath issues and affected Kony's quality of life. The difficult decision was made to put Kony to sleep. Officer Dean was able to have his wife and fellow handlers with him as Kony passed away. Kony will be remembered as affectionate; although, a hard-working and tireless tracker.
