LPD & NSP Join Together for Motorcycle Detail
In an effort to help reduce traffic accidents involving motorcycles, the Lincoln Police Department and the Nebraska State Patrol will be conducting a joint traffic enforcement detail the evening of Friday, May 15, 2015. The objective is to conduct a high visibility enforcement detail, within the city limits, to reduce the number of motorcycle accidents resulting in injuries and fatalities. The Nebraska Office of Highway Safety is providing overtime funding for the increased enforcement.
In 2014, the Lincoln Police Department investigated 15 fatal accidents and 1,818 injury accidents. Of those, 4 of the fatal accidents (27%) and 103 of the injury accidents (6%) involved motorcycle operators and/or their passengers. Traffic Sergeant Kocian added, "It is our hope that by raising awareness, along with added enforcement, we can help reduce the number of traffic accidents resulting in injury or death in 2015."
Due to the prediction of heavy storms on May 15, the detail has been rescheduled for Friday, June 5, 2015.
