Northwest Team Underage Drinking Project Summary
In an effort to impact illegal behavior on home football Saturdays, the Lincoln Police Department's Northwest Team coordinated an underage drinking project to coincide with the return of school and the football season. Funding for the increased enforcement was provided by the Nebraska Office of Highway Safety.
During the final four home football games, October 10, October 24, November 7 and November 27, 2015 a total of 23 officers were utilized to impact underage drinking along with other illegal activity prior to the kick off of each game. Their results were as follows:
34 citations issued for MIP 37 citations for Consuming in Public 1 citation for False Information 2 citations for Fail to Comply 6 citations for Littering 1 citation for Trespassing 17 citations for Urinating in Public 1 traffic related stop 1 citation for Driving Under Suspension 1 citation for Possession of Controlled Substance 49 parking citations 26 vehicles towed 9 miscellaneous criminal violations
Additional funding was provided by the Nebraska Office of Highway Safety for the initial phase of this project. During the first three home football games, officers saturated the North Bottoms neighborhood in an attempt to reduce binge drinking and alcohol related offenses.
