Homicide Investigation Underway
On Thursday, December 15, 2016, at 1:27 a.m., members of the Lincoln Police Department were called to the parking lot of an apartment complex in the 1000 block of North 23rd Street on a disturbance described as "banging" sounds.
At 1:28 a.m., an officer arrived and encountered multiple individuals. A sport utility vehicle, driven by a male, immediately fled eastbound through the parking lot. Another male, standing in the parking lot, did not comply with an officer's request to stop. The man ran from the officer and a physical struggle followed. Ultimately, the male entered a gold 2007 Chevrolet Malibu. That vehicle fled northbound, off the roadway, through the apartment complex, but stopped a short distance away. The male then fled on foot westbound. A canine track did not lead to the suspect. We are still working to identify both males.
As officers examined the scene, a green 1999 Buick Park Avenue was left unoccupied, with the engine running. The trunk was not latched and a deceased male was found inside the trunk.
Crime scene investigators are processing the vehicle. Investigators are working to determine where the victim's death occurred. An autopsy has been ordered and the identity of the deceased is not being released pending notification of family members.
