St. Patrick's Day Enforcement Project
In an effort to help impact motor vehicle accidents, impaired driving and to deter overserving, the Lincoln Police Department will be conducting a special detail on Thursday, March 17, 2016. The objective of the detail is to reduce the number of motor vehicle accidents and DWI violations while helping to promote responsible sales and service of alcoholic beverages in licensed liquor establishments throughout the city.
Extra officers will be added to each of the city’s five geographic police teams. These officers will be conducting alcohol compliance checks at various licensed liquor establishments in each team area. When that detail is complete, the officers will conduct high visibility traffic enforcement with emphasis placed on traffic and DWI enforcement.
Sgt. Todd Kocian said, “It is our hope that, by conducting this special detail, we can help reduce the number of traffic accidents and impaired drivers while also promoting responsible sales and service of alcoholic beverages.”
The Lincoln Police Department is working in conjunction with the Nebraska State Patrol who will be providing additional troopers to participate in the traffic enforcement portion of the project. The Nebraska Office of Highway Safety is providing funding for extra officers participating in the detail.
