Budget Process

Action on requests for signed and painted crosswalks can generally be accomplished in a few weeks, contingent upon weather conditions. Requests for school signals, speed zones or other safety devices of a Capital Improvement nature, must be made as early as possible within the school year, in order to receive funding in the City's budget for the next fiscal year. The safety chairperson or school official is not usually involved in the budgetary process beyond the initial request and action by the Public Works Department. The schedule in the Appendix shows the necessary steps which the request for capital outlay must follow before the actual installation is complete.
