South Street Bridge Reconstruction

South St. Bridge before construction
The project includes replacement of the existing South Street bridge over Antelope Creek, pavement approaches, sidewalk reconstruction, water main reconstruction, storm sewer reconstruction, sanitary sewer relocations, and channel stabilization work. Sanitary sewer construction will occur in the golf course area, but the course will remain open for normal play because the sanitary sewer will be micro-tunneled underground.
The box culvert on 38th Street just south of South Street will be removed and 38th Street closed permanently with the project. The 38th Street bridge over Antelope Creek just south of South Street will be removed and a turnaround "hammerhead" will be constructed south of Antelope Creek as part of this project.
A pre-construction open house meeting was held August 24, 2011, from 4:30 to 6:00 p.m. at the Jim Ager Club House, 3761 Normal Blvd.
Construction began September 6, 2011. Substantial completion of the entire project is scheduled for June 2012, with final completion in August 2012.
