"P" St. Streetscape Project

11th Street to Centennial Mall

May 16, 2014 Construction Update

May showers struck with full-force over the Mother's Day weekend, and the amount of rain received caused a couple of days of slower progress while the crews worked on regaining momentum. As the work continues to advance into new phases, please remember that all businesses remain open throughout the course of the project. Sidewalk closures do continue to change on a regular basis so please pay attention to the pedestrian routing that is in place when trying to access a particular business.

The closure of 13th Street between "P" Street and "Q" Street partially went into effect on Thursday, May 15, for the northbound lane of 13th Street. Please watch for updates on the message board currently located on "Q" Street at the corner of 13th Street indicating when southbound 13th Street will be closed. This closure is necessary to allow for the installation of storm sewers and relocation of a traffic signal pole. Some of the sidewalk around the northeast corner of 13th & "P" Street has been closed off to pedestrian access and will not be restored until this work is complete.

Work along the south side of the street between 11th Street and 12th Street is taking place to complete installation of the light pole bases. A temporary street light pole will be installed on this block in the coming week.

Work along the south side of the street from 12th Street to 13th Street continues. The planting bed and bioretention area on the southwest corner of 13th Street is complete. The contractor is working to clean this area and remove all remaining barricades. A temporary street light pole will be installed on this block in the coming weeks.

The work on the south side of the street between 13th and 14th Streets continues. The businesses along this block are currently accessible from "O" Street along 13th Street and from 14th & "P" Street. The contractor poured back the sidewalk ramps at the southeast corner of 13th Street yesterday and will work on completing the paving at this location today. This will allow the restoration of sidewalks through this block and access to the businesses will no longer be detoured. The bioretention area at the southeast corner of 13th Street has been poured and is being completed.

The work on the east side of 14th Street from "O" to "P" Streets continues. The businesses along this block are accessible from 14th & "O" Street. This has been necessary to allow a number of work activities to take place at the southeast corner of 14th & "P" Street. The remaining sidewalk and pavement at the southeast corner of 14th Street is being completed today and tomorrow, and pedestrian access will be resumed as soon as possible. All of the parking setbacks and alley return have been poured back along the block. The alley return should be reopened as soon as 14th Street is restored to traffic. The utility repair at the southwest corner of 14th Street is nearly complete and paving should be restored in this area next week. One through lane of 14th Street will be restored early during next week.

The contractor has restored the pavement on the south side of "P" Street from 14th Street to Centennial Mall. They expect to pour the sidewalk back in the coming week.

The intersection of "P" Street and Centennial Mall is open to traffic. The pedestrian crossings continue to be closed and pedestrians are still being detoured to the nearest signalized intersections. These ramps should be restored next week. Both the Nebraska History Museum and the Lincoln Children's Museum continue to be open and accessible.

The north side of "P" Street from 11th Street to 12th Street is under construction and progressing quickly despite the weather. The contractor has restored most of the pavement and has installed nearly all of the storm sewer. The sidewalk corridor is currently open along the building fronts and access to all businesses is being maintained through the duration of this work.
