"P" St. Streetscape Project

11th Street to Centennial Mall

May 30, 2014 Construction Update

The work on the project is beginning to heat up along with the weather. Some of the last areas of work on the south side of "P" Street are quickly being wrapped up and will help to focus the project energy on completion of the north side of the street. As always, every business remains open and accessible during the project. Sidewalk closures do continue to change on a regular basis so please pay attention to the pedestrian routing that is in place when trying to access a particular business.

The closure of 13th Street between "P" Street and "Q" Street is in full effect. While this closure disrupts both vehicular and pedestrian movements in the areas, it is necessary to allow for the installation of storm sewers and relocation of a traffic signal pole. The work will help to keep both the "P" Street Project and the Civic Plaza Project on schedule for the remainder of the summer.

The work on the south side of the street between 13th and 14th Streets is substantially complete with some remaining items to be finished at each end of the block. Parking stalls and meters should be restored in front of the businesses on this block early next week.

The work on the east side of 14th Street from "O" to "P" Streets will be substantially complete in the next couple of days. Sidewalks are nearly complete and work is taking place to complete the southeast corner at 14th and "P" Street. Businesses are all accessible if coming along 14th Street from "O" Street.

The restoration of sidewalk along the south side of "P" Street from 14th Street to Centennial Mall has been delayed by the numerous rain events. The contractor is working to complete this area today.

The intersection of "P" Street and Centennial Mall is open to traffic. The southwest corner pedestrian crossings continue to be closed, but the Nebraska History Museum is still open and accessible to pedestrians when coming from "O" Street. The Lincoln Children's Museum continues to be open and accessible.

The north side of "P" Street from 11th Street to 12th Street is under construction and progressing quickly despite the weather. The contractor has restored most of the pavement and has completed the entire storm sewer. The sidewalk corridor is currently open along the building fronts and access to all businesses is being maintained through the duration of this work. The silva cells will be completed during the next week and additional sidewalk and pavement will be completed.

Work along the block from 12th to 13th Streets is expected to begin early next week. This block should be completed in a similar manner to the 11th to 12th Street block — a sidewalk corridor will be restored immediately to maintain business access, followed by work on the parking setback, utilities, silva cells, and bioretention areas. Please be aware of the changing sidewalk routes that will take place while the sidewalk corridor is restored.
