Antelope Park and Rock Island Trail Project South Street to Calvert Street

Scope of Work

This project includes repairs of the stair structure and bikeway, and installation of storm sewer along the Rock Island Trail from South Street to Calvert Street. Project benefits include eliminating standing water in low areas, reducing mud and ice on the trail for improved trail safety, and improved pedestrian school routes.

The project will be completed in two phases. The first phase will take place between South Street and Van Dorn Street, and includes repairs to the pedestrian stairs and some minor storm sewer work. The second phase will take place between Sheridan Boulevard and Calvert Street, and includes more extensive repair of the bikeway and installation of storm sewer along the bikeway.

Access During Construction

During construction, work areas along the bikeway shall be closed with detours marked for pedestrians and cyclists.

  • During Phase 1, trail users are advised to use South Street and Van Dorn Street, then take Winthrop Road to the west or 33rd Street to the east.
  • During Phase 2, the recommended trail detour is Van Dorn Street and Calvert Street, then take 31st Street to the west or 33rd Street to the east.

Schedule

Construction began September 24, 2018 is expected to be completed in December 2018.
