Bridge Repair Project Rosa Parks Way – Salt Creek Bridge

Updated November 2018

Scope of Work

This project includes repairs to the bridges over Salt Creek on Rosa Parks Way. Work will include repairing the pavement where the bridge meets the rest of the street, addressing soil erosion issues and upgrading drainage of the roadway.

Excessively wet seasons over the past two years have led to accelerated soil erosion that is creating dips in the street surface at each end of the bridges. If not repaired before winter, the freeze-thaw cycle may degrade the street and bridge structure, causing unsafe conditions and longer-term closures until it can be repaired.

Access During Construction

The lane closure plan is designed to maintain traffic flow during periods of peak use. Initial work will close one lane in each direction to prepare for construction activities. Following these preparations, traffic will be shifted into a head-to-head configuration, allowing the contractor to perform work on one of the bridges while traffic is maintained on the other bridge. Construction will begin on the north bridge. Digital messages boards will alert drivers to changes.

The project began Tuesday, September 4, 2018 and the north bridge is scheduled be completed in late-November. Once the north bridge is complete, all lanes will re-open for the winter. Unseasonable wet weather in September and October caused delays, and due to this, the south bridge will be completed in the spring of 2019.
