Railroad Quiet Zones


What is a Railroad Quiet Zone?
A Quiet Zone is a section of a rail line that contains one or more consecutive public crossings at which locomotive horns are not routinely sounded. The FRA rule describes the requirements that communities must meet in order to implement a Quiet Zone.
Quiet Zone Projects
BNSF Cornhusker Highway Quiet Zone Project
The North Lincoln Quiet Zone includes the BNSF track crossings at N 70th Street, N 44th Street, Adams Street, and N 33rd Street.
South Salt Creek and South Lincoln Quiet Zone
South Salt Creek Crossings include the BNSF track crossings at 1st Street south of 'J' Street, 2nd Street south of 'J' Street, and 'J' Street west of 4th Street
South Lincoln Crossings include the BNSF track crossings at 'D' Street west of 3rd Street, South Street west of Park Blvd., Park Blvd south of South Street, Pioneers Street west of 8th Street, Old Cheney Blvd west of Hunts Drive, and S 14th Street south of Yankee Hill Road. Saltillo Road west of 27th Street will be added as soon as construction is complete.
