Haulers Helping the Homeless

The People's City Mission and local waste haulers are partnering to collect old clothing, shoes, purses, belts and other textiles from households starting in August 2015. Waste haulers will collect plastic trash bags of donated clothing at the curb on a designated day. Each waste hauler will identify the collection days for the clothing. Proceeds from the recycling of these donated items will help off-set the cost of collection and support the Mission's homeless services.

To participate in the program residents can obtain green tags at Hy-Vee, Super Saver or Russ's Market Customer Service counters. These green tags can be used to tie the plastic trash bags of clothing. After tying the plastic bag with the green tag residents should place the bag at the curb on the designated collection day for your waste hauler to pick up.

For information on the designated collection days for clothing contact your waste hauler. For those who want to give their clothing directly to needy individuals in Lincoln rather than recycling them should take their clothing to one of the People's City Mission's Toss Boxes located throughout the City.
