StarTran Announces 25-cent Rides in February

StarTran Announces 25-cent Rides in February

In an effort to promote public transportation to Lincoln, StarTran, the city's bus system, is offering 25-cent rides for the entire month of February. StarTran Advisory Board member John Baylor said the promotion is aimed at raising awareness and reminding residents that public transportation is an available option that makes sense.

"With both the green movement and recession prominently on people's minds, we felt that now was an ideal time to reintroduce StarTran as a viable transportation option," Baylor said. "We can't make people ride the bus, but we can help them see the many benefits of riding it even a few times per week. And if we can get them to try it for only 25 cents, that's even better."

StarTran officials say the benefits of using the bus include reducing pollution, wear and tear on vehicles, roads, and personal transportation expenses.

"While many Lincolnites may find it difficult to rely on the bus as a sole form of transportation, many of these benefits can have great effect when riding as little as once per week," said Larry Worth, StarTran's Transit Manager. "If friends, families and co-workers are encouraging each other to ride the bus, perceptions – and behavior – can change."
