Mayor's Water Conservation Task Force
2012 Earth Wellness Festival
The Earth Wellness Festival at Southeast Community College is a fifth-grade science extravaganza. Lincoln Water System has been a part of the Earth Wellness Festival for approximately 17 years.
This year, Lincoln Water System shared a power point presentation showing the steps taken to deliver quality drinking water to Lincoln residents. The process begins in Ashland where they pump the water, disinfect, treat, test, and send to Lincoln for residential and commercial use. They also discussed the maintenance of the water mains and fire hydrants.
The students were asked a few trivia questions:
- How many fire hydrants are in Lincoln?
- 10,685
- How many miles of underground water mains are there?
- 1,200 miles
- How many gallons of water are stored in Lincoln's tanks and reservoirs?
- 104 million gallons!!
The students also participated in a taste test that examines the concentration of pollutants in drinking water.
Over 3,100 students participated in the Earth Wellness Festival.
