PUBLIC OPEN HOUSE
Public Improvement Project Near 14th and Highway 2
You are invited to attend an open house for the proposed design of flood reduction measures to Beal Slough at South 14th Street and Highway 2 near the Nebraska State Penitentiary and the re-design of the South 14th Street bridge over Beal Slough. The meeting will be held on Thursday, March 25, 2010 from 4:30 to 6:30 p.m. at Scott Middle School, 2200 Pine Lake Road. A short presentation will begin at 5:15 p.m.
The goals of the project are to:
- reduce the extent of the floodplain at the Nebraska State Penitentiary and on properties upstream of South 14th Street.
- stabilize the bed and banks of Beal Slough.
- mitigate the impact downstream from project construction.
The project includes channel improvements, low water crossings, channel stability measures, and reconstruction of the South 14th Street bridge over Beal Slough located just north of the intersection of South 14th Street and Center Park Road.
Construction is expected to begin early 2011. At the open house, representatives of the Lower Platte South Natural Resources District (NRD), the City of Lincoln, and project consultants will be available to discuss the proposed design and answer questions. Traffic concepts and phasing options for the bridge reconstruction will be presented. Attendees are encouraged to provide feedback.
