2006 Flood Ordinance Update

Summary of Floodplain Ordinance Updates

-Adopted 1/9/06

The City of Lincoln adopted revised floodplain ordinances on May 25, 2004. During this adoption process, certain provisions related to the usage of best available information from new or recent floodplain mapping studies were inadvertently not included in the ordinance changes or require clarification.

Definitions:

Existing Urban Area -
the part of the City of Lincoln Jurisdiction inside the City limits or zoned other than AG or AGR as of May 25, 2004.
New Growth Area -
the part of the City of Lincoln Jurisdiction outside the City limits and zoned AG or AGR as of May 25, 2004.

Updates to Flood Regulations for Existing Urban Area

- Updates are to Lincoln Municipal Code 27.52 and 26.24 that would allow for the 'best available information' from new or recent floodplain mapping studies be used for regulatory purposes in the Existing Urban Area.

Updates to Flood Regulations for New Growth Areas

- Updates are to Lincoln Municipal Code 27.53 and 26.25 that would clarify usage of floodway information from new or recent floodplain mapping studies for regulatory purposes in the New Growth Area.

These updates do not change the technical regulatory standards for floodplain development. They revise the way new floodplain mapping study information can be applied within the City of Lincoln Jurisdiction, when a new or recent study is adopted as best available information by the City Council of the City of Lincoln.
