Respiratory Illness Season

Respiratory illnesses like flu, COVID-19 and RSV increase in the fall and winter. The Health Department continually monitors data throughout the season. Staying up to date on vaccines and taking simple precautions helps you stay healthier and reduces the spread of illness in the community.

Protect against Respiratory Illnesses

LLCHD recommends the following actions to protect against respiratory illnesses:

  • Get vaccinated. There are now vaccines available for all three major respiratory viruses – flu, COVID and RSV (for those 60 and over).
  • Take a COVID-19 test if you have symptoms or have been exposed to someone with COVID or if you’re attending a gathering or event.
  • Stay home if you’re sick and avoid contact with others who are sick.
  • Wash hands often.
  • Cover coughs and sneezes.
  • Wear a mask if you have cold, flu or COVID-like symptoms.
  • Clean and disinfect surfaces.
