Lincoln on the Move is investing in improvements to approximately 0.8 miles of 48th Street from Normal Boulevard to Cotner Boulevard. These improvements include a mill and overlay of the existing surface, curb and gutter and base repairs where required, joint and crack sealing, public utility adjustments, pavement markings and inlet top replacements. Additional work with other funding sources includes upgrades to the existing curb ramps to comply with the Federal Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) requirements. New traffic signal infrastructure or roundabouts will be evaluated for implementation at the intersections of South and Sumner streets.
This project is programmed as a part of the commitment to voters to invest significant sales tax funds into improvement of existing streets. The project will be funded jointly from the Highway Allocation Funds (aka-Gas Tax) and ¼ cent sales tax for streets in accordance with ballot language.
Construction in anticipated to take place in 2026.
A full closure of the street is anticipated to facilitate construction. Sidewalk closures for ramp reconstructions at various intersections will also be needed.
