Project Summary
Lincoln on the Move is investing in improvements to approximately three miles of Normal Boulevard from 33rd to 70th streets. These improvements will include mill and overlay with concrete and base repairs or replacement where required, curb and median repair or replacement, joint and crack sealing, inlet and inlet top replacements, and public utility adjustments. Additional work with other funding sources includes traffic signal replacement at South Street, 40th Street, 48th Street, and 56th Street, and pedestrian ramp reconstruction to meet federal and local standards.
Funding Details
This project is programmed as a part of the commitment to voters to invest significant sales tax funds into improvement of existing streets. The project will be funded jointly from the Highway Allocation Funds (aka-Gas Tax) and ¼ cent sales tax for streets in accordance with ballot language.
Schedule
Beginning fall 2024, street improvements began at 33rd Street and Normal Boulevard, with work progressing to the east. Construction is scheduled to pause through winter and resume in spring 2025.
Access During Construction
Construction will be completed in segments to reduce impacts to traffic. Construction on Normal Boulevard between 33rd and 56th streets will be completed under lane closures and two-way traffic will be maintained at all times. Construction on Normal Boulevard between 56th and 70th streets will remain open to the extent possible but will require a temporary full street closure to complete curb ramp work and pavement repairs. Local access to properties in the work area will be maintained.
The traveling public is encouraged to find alternative routes and to use the WAZE app for assistance.
Public Open House
Members of the project team were available to answer questions and provide an overview of the project, as well as information on the planned improvements, project phasing and the construction schedule.
