FREE yoga in Antelope Park, every Sunday in September at 10am.

Focused on fun and creating community.

Bring a mat or towel, kids and pets welcome!

Program is held at Antelope Park at the bandshell.

Now in its 12th year, Lincoln Parks and Recreation is offering free community yoga at Antelope Park Sundays in September at 10am. The event called PLAY (Parks, Lincoln, and Yoga) offers classes that are accessible to almost anyone no matter their level of yoga experience. Teachers are hand selected by PLAY’s organizer for their ability to offer all-levels classes that allow attendees to experience the joy and energy of an outdoor community yoga event.

“That was my goal in creating PLAY,” said PLAY’s founder, Katherine Warren, “I wanted everyone to get to experience the joy of this yoga community.” “No matter if you’ve ever stepped foot in a yoga class, you can come to the park with a mat (or even just a towel) and experience yoga with zero intimidation. You can spread out amongst the trees. If you fall, the soft grass will catch you, if you want to bring kids, pets or bikes to the park, all are welcome.”

Salena.jpeg

Salena Woodrow from Ritual Yoga

Salena Woodrow has been practicing yoga as a student and teacher for the better part of 30 years.

As a D2 Collegiate cheerleader and dancer, flexibility was the name of the game. A brief encounter with traditional yoga started her decades-long love affair.

Yoga has served different roles over the decades which included yoga for physical fitness (seeking the yoga booty lol), yoga to supplement marathon training and my time on the mat to support my mental health while transitioning through a divorce.

Her love for all things yoga eventually led her to yoga teacher training, which she completed and received her 200 hr RYT. During teacher training, the spark was ignited, and she decided to pursue opening her own yoga studio to support the community.

On November 11, 2023, Ritual Yoga and Wellness was born in South Lincoln.

Salena’s life purpose has always been to support and love on others through the journey of life. She has found her home at Ritual and extends a loving hand to anyone feeling called to practice with us.

She is originally from Indiana and transplanted to Nebraska in 2017. She has 4 kids, 2 Aussies and 1 cat (Mr Sous Chef).

Lincoln Yoga Day!

Sheila Palmquist of Lincoln Yoga Center, E-RYT500, RCYT, RPYT, YACEP, and organizer Transforming Trauma Conference

Lincoln Yoga Center opened August 28th 2010, offers 200 and 300 Hour Yoga Certification, and Take 5 Certification (Behavior program for children). We offer group classes for all ages and abilities. Private and semi-private sessions are available for expecting mothers, athletes wishing to improve performance and focus, stress reduction, injury recovery, chronic illness, pain management, children, teens, seniors, etc. Everyone can practice yoga, and benefit from the effects.

My introduction to yoga began in 2000, while living in Loveland, CO. I had an injury that kept me from my workouts of weightlifting and cardiovascular exercise, so I tried yoga. I have been a student ever since. My yoga practice became a way to maintain a healthy balance of my mind, body and spirit. I started my yoga training in 2002 after my second child was born, gave up my stress filled corporate job and started teaching yoga to kids.

My yoga journey in Lincoln has taken me too many gyms, schools, businesses, and wellness centers. I have met many wonderful people and have grown from each new experience. In 2008 I received my 200-hour certification at the Omaha Yoga & Bodywork Center and my 500 hour certification at the Himalayan Institute in PA and India. My approach to yoga is always based on what is best for the student. I do not believe in forceful practices. We are all unique, no one should try to copy someone else’s posture or practice, find yours. Our bodies and minds react differently to stress, we do not perceive or process things the same way. There is a formula for a healthy balance that is unique for all of us. Some students find awareness through moving the body, (postures) others though the mind, (meditation) generally it is a combination of practices. The breath is the most important component.

Take three deep, slow breaths (so the abdomen moves) right now ….notice what the affect is on the mind and body.

At Lincoln Yoga Center we will help you find your center in a non-competitive, non-judgmental way. We welcome you and your questions.
