2024 Fall Tree Giveaway

Lincoln neighborhoods and communities across the U.S. are experiencing a mass tree decline with the removal of ash trees due to the Emerald Ash Borer (EAB). Lincoln Parks and Recreation Department analyzed available data and found there are large low to moderate income residential areas in Northeast and Northwest Lincoln that have been hit hard by EAB. The focus of this event is getting trees into the hands of owner-occupied homes where households may not have the disposable income to purchase a private tree.

To help get trees planted in these high need neighborhoods, Lincoln Parks and Recreation will be distributing trees at the 2024 Wild Fall Festival at the Pioneers Park Nature Center as the site of the 2024 Tree Distribution on Saturday, September 28 from 1 to 4 pm.

Trees have been selected because of their suitability to the local climate and information on selecting, planting and maintaining your tree will be available. 

Important things to know:

• First-come, first-served! The tree giveaway at the Pioneers Park Nature Center's Wild Fall Festival.
• Limited stock!  The first 250 visitors to the Tree Giveaway booth will receive a tree.  Visit Tree Giveaway site for information about the varieties of trees available.
• Plan ahead! Please plan to have a space in your vehicle to hold a 6-foot-tall tree in a 3 gallon container. Trees and containers can be laid gently on their side during transport.
• Get educated on trees! There will be an opportunity to discuss trees and their related issues with tree arborists and volunteers before picking out the perfect species for your property.
• Get a tree flyer and a tree. After choosing the species and getting an informational flyer about your new tree, head towards the Prairie Schoolhouse to pick your new tree up before leaving the park.
