LPD Announces Speeding Prevention Enforcement Project

Published on July 10, 2024

The Lincoln Police Department (LPD) today announced it will conduct a traffic enforcement project focused on speeding July 11 through 31. Additional officers will patrol areas that have high numbers of vehicle crashes, and that have generated numerous complaints regarding vehicles traveling at excessive speeds.

The project coincides with the national Speeding Prevention Driving Enforcement Program and is made possible by a grant from the Nebraska Department of Transportation (NDOT) Highway Safety Office.

Speed was a factor in 12,151 (29%) of traffic fatalities in the nation in 2022.

“Excessive speeds lead to more violent crashes on our roadways and the greater potential for serious injury or loss of life. This means that speeding has a direct impact on our community and we need the community’s help to make a difference,” said Sergeant Sara Genoways, LPD Traffic Unit Supervisor.

LPD and the NDOT remind residents that “speeding catches up to you.” Please drive safely and follow posted speed limits.
