The Lincoln Police Department Forensic Identification Unit processes latent print evidence for investigations taking place in Lancaster County, and conducts searches of latent evidence through the NE AFIS and NGI databases. The unit also processes video evidence and submits suspect photos to the CrimeStoppers website.
The LPD Forensic Identification Unit takes fingerprints for civilian/applicant purposes Monday-Friday between 1:00pm and 3:00pm, except holidays. You do not need to make an appointment, and prints are taken first come first serve. If you have fingerprint cards given to you by an employer we will use those. If you do not have fingerprint cards, we do have generic federal applicant cards (FD258) to give to you. There is a $5 charge for the service, up to 3 cards. For those living outside Lincoln, the Nebraska State Patrol also takes civilian fingerprints at several locations through-out the state, by on-line appointment only.
The Forensic Identification Unit is located inside the Lincoln, Nebraska City / County building at 575 S. 10th St. Enter the center doors on the west side of the building, behind the flags and Abraham Lincoln statue, and pass through metal detectors on your way to the front desk. At the desk, advise that you need your fingerprints taken and they will point you to the proper door. Please bring a government issued photo I.D. with you, such as your driver's license. Parking is free on S. 10th Street in front of the building and in the lot north of the building.
