City Receives Budget Award

Lyn Heaton, Chief Financial Officer, today announced that the City of Lincoln has received the Distinguished Budget Presentation Award from the Government Finance Officers Association (GFOA). GFOA's Distinguished Budget Presentation Award is the highest form of recognition in the area of governmental budgeting, and its attainment represents a significant accomplishment by a government and its management.

The award is for the first year of Lincoln’s Biennial Budget beginning September 1, 2022. This is the fifth time Lincoln has received the award.

“I am very proud of the Finance Department’s Budget team and congratulate them for this well-deserved recognition for their hard work and dedication to providing a high quality budget book for the City of Lincoln,” Heaton said. “Thank you also to Mayor Gaylor Baird for her leadership as well as that of the members of the City Council for providing the necessary resources and support for the Finance Department to serve the people of Lincoln in this important way.”

According to GFOA, Lincoln had to satisfy nationally recognized guidelines for effective budget presentation to qualify for the award. These guidelines are based on how well a city’s budget serves as a policy document, financial plan, operations guide and communications device. Budget documents must be rated "proficient" in all four categories, and in the 14 mandatory criteria within those categories to receive the award.

The GFOA is a professional association serving the needs of more than 19,000 appointed and elected local, state and provincial-level government officials and other finance practitioners.
