Program provides summer work opportunities for local youth
The American Job Center today invited high school seniors, college students, and youth ages 16 to 24 to participate in this summer’s Mayor’s Youth Employment Program. The application deadline is 5 p.m. March 23. To apply, visit lincoln.ne.gov/YEP.
“The program is designed to give young people real-world skills while directly giving back to our community, contributing to the services that provide our high-quality of life here in Lincoln,” said Mayor Leirion Gaylor Baird.
The program offers students job opportunities with City of Lincoln departments that include training, leadership development, and career assistance such as tuition support and/or reference from a supervisor. Participants will be paid $15 per hour at their place of agency employment and receive a $200 bonus for completing the internship.

The Mayor’s Youth Employment Program is a part of the Workforce Investment and Opportunity Act (WIOA) program which provides job training opportunities for youth through a paid summer internship. WIOA is designed to strengthen and improve the nation's public workforce system and help get Americans, including youth and those with significant barriers to employment, into high-quality jobs and careers and help employers hire and retain skilled workers.
