Donald J. Berger II Memorial Dock to be Dedicated at Holmes Lake Park

The Lincoln Parks Foundation and the Lincoln Parks and Recreation Department invite the public to attend the dedication of the Donald J. Berger II Memorial Dock at 5:30 p.m. Thursday, July 25 at Holmes Lake Park, 70th Street and Holmes South Shore Road.

The Donald J. Berger II Memorial Dock replaces an aging dock that had been in use for many years.

“Holmes Lake Park has become a popular destination for outdoor recreation in Lincoln,” said Randy Gordon, Executive Director of the Lincoln Parks Foundation. “There was a great need for a dock with improved functionality and accessibility.”

The new ADA-accessible dock was funded by the family of Donald J. Berger II along with private and corporate donors. The Lincoln Parks Foundation led the fundraising campaign with the help of Holmes Lake Sailing Club member Tim Kirkpatrick.

The dock can be used for fishing, fishing boat access and as a launching point for kayaks, canoes, paddleboards and sailboats. The ADA features include a wider dock, curbing and railing, making it easier for people of all ages and abilities to enjoy fishing and water recreation.

“It’s great for the boating community and really brings the community together,” said longtime Holmes Lake Sailing Club member Dave Brown.
